Diabetes can develop quietly. Some people expect diabetes symptoms to be obvious during the day, but certain signs may become more noticeable at night, when the body is resting and there are fewer distractions.
Waking up to urinate, feeling very thirsty, sweating during sleep, sleeping poorly, or noticing tingling in the feet may all be clues that blood sugar is not well balanced. These symptoms do not automatically mean diabetes. Stress, caffeine, urinary tract infections, menopause, dehydration, sleep apnea, medications, and other health conditions can cause similar problems.
Still, if these signs happen repeatedly or appear together, it is worth asking a healthcare professional about blood sugar testing. Diabetes is diagnosed with medical tests, not symptoms alone.
